Why This Form?

Creation of the Pyraback for Back Pain

This tool was made specially to be placed in the back.  However, it could also be used in the whole body. The six protuberances are excellent for getting into our deep back muscle and have an effect on the fascia tissue too. Special care was made to measure these protuberances to produce small movements in the vertebra that help reduce nerve compression. Pyraback can take different forms and could be used over other specific parts of the body head-neck, shoulder, arm, hands, lower back, gluteus, legs, and feet. It requires certain postures and placements, and always resting the body over the Pyraback making it possible to relax when the Pyraback is doing the work of reducing the trigger point pain.  This tool is unique and imitates the therapist's finger knot when entering into contact with deep muscle fibers.  It's life-durable, easy to use, and does not require batteries.  It is as having a physical therapist 24/7, very convenient. One only has to do is to relax while the Pyraback does the whole work.

The Background of the Invention

Medical theory Pyraback is based on:

Pyraback technology is based on two main methods of treatment very popular in Physical Rehabilitation. The McKenzie Method when treats your spine, mostly, back pain.  Second, when pain is related to muscles, the Trigger point theory is applied. Once in treatment, Pyraback also targets the body myofascial.   The protuberance shape in the Pyraback makes this technology stand out and be more useful at the moment to treat many other body conditions, for example, allows it to treat every muscle presenting an active trigger point. Pyraback is perfect for treating many physical conditions of the musculoskeletal system.

McKenzie Theories

Robin McKenzie (1931 – 2013) a physical therapist from New Zealand developed the Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy system, called the McKenzie Method and it was published in 1981. He stressed that body bad habits of sitting affect the fluid nucleus to move posteriorly. As well as some repetitive movements and lifting may produce episodes of back pain.

Back extension, as explained in details by McKenzie, reduces the stress on the posterior annular wall and simultaneously causes the fluid nucleus to move anteriorly. This is important in the treatment of back pain, according to McKenzie, who also explains how Centralization and Peripheralization are sings to know if the symptom of pain is getting better or worse, respectively.  He created a form of exercises and movements sequence to centralize back pain until a complete resolution of symptoms.

In this case, an individual can determined immediately when the Pyraback™ is beneficial because the effects of centralization of pain.

Theory of Trigger Point

The Pyraback™ is also based on the physiology of a trigger point, as explained by Janet G. Travell, M.D and David G. Simons, M.D. in their 1992 book, “Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual. Vol. II, (2nd ed. Baltimore: Lippincott Williams and Wilkins). A trigger point knowing as a contraction of a small part of the fiber is defined as a “Highly irritable localized spot of exquisite tenderness in a nodule in a palpable taut band of muscle tissue”. A trigger point feels like a knot or a small lump that can range in size from a pinhead to a pea (see it as red dots in the sarcomeres drawings). In the long muscles, a trigger point feels like a short piece of cord and can easily be mistaken for a tendon.

Image shows muscle fiber in A) a Normal State, B) Knots in red and fibers in maximunm contraction, C) part of the muscle that extends from contraction knot to the muscle's attachments
The image shows a section of muscle fiber:-A- represent muscle fibers in a normal state.  -B- a knot (in red) a muscle fiber consisting of a mass of sarcomeres in the state of maximum continuous contraction that characterizes a trigger point.-C- shows the part of the muscle fiber that extends from the contraction knot to the muscle's attachment.
Note the greater distance between the Z bands, which displays how the muscle fiber is being stretched by tension within the contraction knot.  The part of the muscle fiber that actually does the contracting is a microscopic unit called sarcomeres The distance between the short crossways lines (Z bands) within the fiber defines the length of the individual sarcomeres. The sarcomeres run lengthwise in the fiber, perpendicular to the Z bands.
